Central Korat

A new lifestyle shopping mall complex, “Central Korat”, was opened in 2017 as part of a new CBD in the gateway province in the North-Eastern part of Thailand. The main contractor’s favorable outcomes on previous shopping mall projects, encouraged them to introduce Xypex Thailand’s systems and solutions to the Asset Owner. This was a great opportunity for Xypex Thailand to showcase it’s Crystalline Technology on the first project for Central Pattana Group.

Throughout the basement areas, consisting of retaining walls, lean concrete slabs, escalator and lift pits, potable and wastewater tanks and ground landscaping, over 62,000 m2 were treated with Xypex Concentrate coating system. The Crystalline Technology in Xypex products forms physical barriers within the concrete matrix, to prevent the water penetration in the structures, whilst waterproofing and protecting the concrete asset from rebar corrosion and concrete deterioration. The sub soils in this area are also high in chloride concentrations and Xypex systems were ideal to provide the required protection from chemical attack and give the structure improved durability.

Following the main coating application, the curing process was completed using Xypex Gamma Cure, to ensure curing efficiency and avoid time delays to the construction schedule.

Furthermore, Xypex Thailand was also appointed to install water-stops in the construction joints. Over 14,800 meters of joints were sealed with Corkjoint Superswell 47B, coupled with Xypex Concentrate coating as a part of the installation method, to provide additional waterproofing benefits and achieve watertight concrete structures.

Xypex waterproofing solutions incorporate several other benefits, such as the self-healing of crack capabilities (up to 0.5 mm) and being non-toxic and safe for use within potable water, guaranteed by certification under NSF61 from NSF International and AS/NZS 4020:2018 standards from Australian Water Quality Centre.

Xypex Crystalline Technology properties have successfully protected this huge project, clearly demonstrating the high performance-based solutions and systems that Xypex have. The durability and service life of the underground structures of the project have been prolonged and enhanced for many years to come as set out by the Asset owner.
