NGK Spark Plugs Thailand & Asia Factories
Xypex Thailand was selected by the main contractor and was specified in the construction of two new manufacturing buildings of automotive parts company, located in Amata City Industrial Estate, Chonburi. The projects were called “NGK Spark Plug (Thailand) building 2”, and “Asia NGK new Factory 4”, which started in 2017 and 2022 respectively.
In the first project, Xypex Crystalline solutions were used in several areas. Before installation of the main waterproofing systems, minor honeycombing and crack defects were remediated using Xypex Patch’n Plug, MP&P Mortar, and Xypex Megamix II, to prepare the substrate for the next steps. Following the initial repairs, Xypex Concentrate coating was applied over 1,800 m2 of the underground water tanks, lean concrete parts of the slab construction, sump pits and toilet blocks. Xypex Gamma Cure was then used on the treated areas to avoid time delays to the construction schedule.
In addition, Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was installed in the roof deck by adding over 1,600 kg of product to the concrete mix at the batching plant, allowing the non-soluble crystalline structures to form within the concrete, thus preventing water ingress from any direction. Our construction joint waterproofing systems were also installed, Corkjoint Superswell 47B, sealing over 400 metres of joints, to ensure watertight structures.
The second construction project began three years later, and working closely with the same contractor, Xypex Thailand was selected to provide the waterproofing solution for sump pits, toilet blocks, oil pits, together with the water tanks. Xypex Concentrate coating was specified and installed over 460 m2 of these areas. After the main product application, the curing process was completed using Xypex Gamma Cure. Additionally, these construction joints were also made watertight using Superswell 47B, coupled with Xypex Concentrate as part of the process to enhance the waterproofing benefits.
Using Xypex Crystalline solutions, these facilities have been protected, and the durability and long service life of the structures has been enhanced. Xypex properties have provided self-healing crack capabilities to all concrete assets, and non-toxic benefit especially for potable water tank, as certified by NSF International (NSF61) and Australian Water Quality Centre (AS/NZS 4020:2018).
