This boutique hospital is located in the centre of Bangkok’s China Town area. As part of the Samitivej Group and operating under the management of Bangkok Dusit Medical Service PCL, Samitivej China Town Hospital provides premium healthcare services for people in China Town and the surrounding areas.

The main challenges within this project related to very high hydrostatic pressure from the water table, as the site is located near to the Chaopraya river, running through the city. The original building was constructed in around 1960, so remediation of aged concrete was key to the success, together with extending the durability and service life by halting corrosion and re-alkalisation of the substrate. Reducing any further maintenance costs was another key objective.

Xypex Thailand initially provided the client with a Level 1 Concrete Assessment of the structure to assist in making an informed decision on what works would be necessary to achieve the best outcomes.

Four levels had been constructed to a depth of -12 metres, well below the water table, creating significant challenges in the deteriorating building. Xypex Thailand were successful in stopping the many active leaks, which was marked by the conversion of some deep areas to electrical control rooms, an area where efficient waterproofing was highly necessary. The coating solution additionally provided all other requirements of the remediation programme.
